Twilio is a communications platform giving developers APIs for the channels a product needs to reach its users. Messaging covers SMS, MMS, WhatsApp, RCS and chat, with a Messaging Service abstraction handling sender pools, compliance registration and failover.
Voice provides programmable calling, SIP trunking, conferencing, recording and transcription, and Video supplies real-time rooms. Verify and Lookup handle one-time passcodes across channels and phone-number intelligence for fraud prevention, and SendGrid covers transactional and marketing email. Above the channels sit higher-order products: Flex, a programmable contact centre; Segment, a customer data platform that unifies profiles across sources; and Engage for orchestrated cross-channel campaigns.
Everything is billed on consumption with volume discounts and no long-term contract — SMS from roughly eight tenths of a cent per message, inbound voice from about eight and a half hundredths of a cent per minute, outbound from one and four tenths of a cent — and a free trial requires no card. Twilio is headquartered in San Francisco and is publicly traded.
