Roam Research is a note-taking tool built around networked thought rather than hierarchy. Its central mechanic is the bidirectional link: writing a page name in double brackets creates a connection in both directions, so every page shows a Linked References section listing everywhere it was mentioned, and an Unlinked References section suggesting places it could be. The effect is that structure emerges from writing rather than from filing, which is why it was widely adopted by researchers, writers and academics.
The daily notes page is the default entry point — an infinite journal where thinking is captured chronologically and organised later through links. Everything is a block, and any block can be referenced, embedded or queried from anywhere else, with queries composing conditions over links, tags and attributes to build live views. Roam popularised this model and influenced a category of tools that followed.
Plans are Pro at fifteen dollars monthly and Believer at five hundred dollars for five years for supporters, both with unlimited graphs and blocks, plus a thirty-one day free trial.
