OneDrive is Microsoft's cloud file storage and synchronization service, and its advantage is depth of integration rather than raw storage. On Windows it is part of File Explorer, with Files On-Demand showing every cloud file as if local and downloading only on access, and Known Folder Move automatically backing up Desktop, Documents and Pictures. Office documents open directly from OneDrive with real-time co-authoring, version history going back thirty days or more, and AutoSave, so collaboration happens in the file rather than through attachments.
Sharing supports links with expiry dates, passwords, view-only and edit permissions, and external recipients, with tenant-level policies constraining what users can share. Business tiers add unlimited or one-terabyte-per-user storage, data loss prevention, retention and legal hold, eDiscovery, and administrative controls through the Microsoft 365 admin centre. Personal Vault adds a second-factor-protected area for sensitive documents.
Consumer plans start around two dollars monthly for a hundred gigabytes, with larger allowances bundled into Microsoft 365 subscriptions; business plans are priced per user monthly.
