Coda is a document platform that erases the line between a document, a spreadsheet and an application. A Coda doc holds formatted text, tables that behave like relational databases with typed columns and references between them, interactive controls such as buttons, sliders and selectors, and formulas that operate across the whole doc rather than within one sheet.
Because tables are real data rather than static grids, the same underlying rows can be surfaced as a table in one section, a kanban board in another and a calendar in a third, each filtered for a different audience. Buttons run actions — updating rows, sending notifications, pushing data to other systems — which is how teams build lightweight applications for planning, tracking and approvals without engineering involvement. Packs extend docs with live two-way connections to Jira, Slack, Google Calendar, Figma, Salesforce and dozens of other systems.
Automations run on schedules or triggers. The pricing model is unusual and deliberate: only Doc Makers pay, while editors, commenters and viewers are free, so a small group of builders can serve a large organisation at modest cost.
